A graduate in Physical Education from Leeds Metropolitan University, Mark worked as a Sports Development Officer before leaving the UK to teach English in South Korea. After two enjoyable years he returned to England to complete his Teacher Training, and joined a large and diverse primary school in Leicestershire where he taught in Year 6, as well as managing PE in the school and coaching the schools' successful Football, Basketball and Cricket teams.
His next professional step was to move on to a fast-paced junior school in Leicester City. Alongside his teaching duties he was also subject leader for Maths, a role he found interesting and very rewarding, and had responsibility for curriculum development, standards and Maths pedagogy.
Mark's priority as a teacher is to create a safe and friendly environment for pupils to be challenged and to help them develop a lifelong passion for learning and discovery. His classes are focused and purposeful, yet relaxed, and he takes great pride in all of his students' achievements, whether academic or otherwise.
Having only recently got married in the summer of 2014, Mark and his wife decided that they wanted to have an adventure to begin their married life together. China seemed an ideal destination, and given its excellent reputation for exciting learning and outstanding academic achievement, BISS Puxi was at the top of the list for schools Mark wished to apply for.
Mark is a lifelong learner, who is by nature inquisitive and interested in the world around us. His parents describe how, from an early age, he always asked 'Why?' Or 'How?' much to their annoyance!
Mark enjoys learning about different cultures, and understands how lucky he is to be able to visit new places and meet people from around the globe. He has travelled around Europe, and Asia, and enjoys the thrill of seeing somewhere new.
His hobbies include playing Basketball and Football, as well as training at the gym or running, having completed half marathons when he feels particularly inspired! He also enjoys reading, and in particular the biographies of inspirational people or true life tales.
Joined in Shanghai by his wife, Mark is excited about the challenges of living and working in China and is looking forward to this new adventure.
