This enabled Tanya to take on a Head of Department position at an all-girls comprehensive in South London. Her interest in teaching arose from her wonderful experiences as a student in both East Africa and England as she was growing up. Following her degree in Fine Art at Goldsmiths College, University of London, Tanya studied for her PGCE and Masters at The Institute of Education, University of London.
Tanya believes her passion for the subject, as well as genuine interest in helping students progress and grow in confidence, means she is a good classroom practitioner. She strongly believes in enabling students to take autonomy over their work and this was the focus of her research dissertation for her masters. As a student in East Africa she felt that she grew immensely by engaging with so many cultures and opportunities and believes that BISS Puxi offers the students the same experiences. There is focus on pupils developing academically as well as through sport, creatively and socially and it is this development of the whole child that she would like to be involved in.
Tanya is passionate about her subject and is always making something and visiting galleries to engage with as much art as possible. She also loves reading, baking and keeping fit. She always likes to set herself new challenges, whether it’s learning a new technique for printmaking, talking to someone she doesn't know well for the first time, or even trying to learn a little more Mandarin.
