Staff Profile: Kieren Reynolds

Kieren Reynolds

Head of Computing Science

Kieren completed a BSc in Computer Science in 2010 and then did a PGCE specialising in Computer Science in 2011. In his first year of teaching (2011) he was approached to join the Master Teacher Program for one of the counties in England. This involved co-ordinating regional teachers in the delivery of Computer Science. After leading the regional hub successfully for 3 years he moved to become the Head of Department for ICT/Computer Science/Business.

Whilst undertaking the HoD role, he paved the way for the school to be granted ‘Lead school of Excellence in Computer Science for the region’. This meant the school was a beacon to all surrounding schools for training/support. Upon achieving ‘Lead school’ he was granted ‘Master Teacher Level 2’ which was the highest level of Master Teacher. Kieren is currently undertaking a PhD in Computer Science looking specifically at girls’ progression through Computer Science and Mathematics and their aspirations regarding the Engineering/computing fields of work/study. Kieren continues to speak at many conferences across the globe with regards to teaching Computer Science in the secondary classroom.

Kieren is a very keen programmer who is always trying to learn new languages. He is currently looking at programming with one of the latest 3d headsets. One of his passions is cryptography and puzzles. Cryptography teaches you resilience and encourages you never to give up no matter how tough the challenge.

Kieren’s current personal best on solving a scrambled Rubix Cube is 53 seconds. He has a bit of a magical flare and likes to think of himself as a Computer Science magician mainly with the aid of cards.
