Alexander graduated with a first class honours degree in Modern Languages with distinction in spoken Spanish from the University of Exeter. After completing an MA in Spanish and Latin American Studies at King’s College, London, followed by a PhD in Spanish History at the University of Exeter, he undertook a PGCE in Modern Languages (Spanish and French) at the University of Cambridge.
Alexander has lived and worked in both Spain and France and he has taught languages extensively at secondary level and in the higher education sector. He comes to BISS Puxi from Dartford Grammar School, a leading IB World School in the UK, where he taught Spanish and Theory of Knowledge. At Dartford Grammar Alexander coordinated higher education links in Modern Languages and led and assisted with a number of initiatives for gifted and talented students (including the European Mock Council for Schools). In addition, he set up an international film club for key stage 5, he led a year 12 study visit to Madrid, and he assisted with the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award. Alexander is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (UK) and he is an examiner for Language B (Spanish) for the International Baccalaureate Diploma.
His interests include reading (particularly Spanish literature), international cinema, travel, and music. Alexander is looking forward to working in an international environment and sharing his passion for European languages and culture with his students. He also hopes to explore China and learn some Mandarin along the way.
