Staff Profile: James Carson

James Carson

Head of EAL

James graduated with a Manchester University degree and decided that it was time to explore the world. He embarked on an 18 month long world adventure, passing through SE Asia, Australia and South America. It was during this time he realised there were more people trying to learn English than actually spoke it as a first language, so decided to qualify as an English language specialist. James then went on for a number of years to teach in Japan, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.

In KSA James was in the personal retinue of a senior Prince and prepared his English so HRH could converse with Presidents, PMs and other royalty around the world. He found it was a highly interesting experience. After a short time training election staff for the OECD as a UN volunteer in war torn Bosnia, he returned to the UK to develop his career further. It was during this time at the international section of one of Britain’s oldest schools, Sherborne School, that James got the Cambridge DELTA. This Masters level English language teaching qualification gave James the impetus to explore more ways to help students master English. After 11 years teaching in two of the UKs finest independent schools James and his wife Christie decided to come to BISS Puxi, one of the finest schools in Asia. Ser Masters level English Lanog.

James has a range of interests mainly revolving around sport and travel. In his more youthful days James was a keen rugby player and fencer. He enjoyed golf and squash too and still plays these sports whenever he can. He has travelled to more than 60 counties around the world, from which he likes to learn about different cultures. He is married to Christie and has two children, Florence and Jago and it is with his family James enjoys visiting new places of interest either notching up new countries or visiting museums, parks, gardens, etc.. Also as a family, the Carsons enjoy hiking and exploring islands.
