Staff Profile: Laury Valente

Laury Valente

French Teacher/Year 10 Form Tutor

Laury studied Foreign Languages and Civilisations in the University of Avignon, France before moving abroad to obtain a PGCE in Modern Languages at Liverpool John Moores University in 2006. He went on to hone his teaching skills in the city of Liverpool before moving on to Cairo, Egypt where he taught in MES, one of the leading schools in the Middle East.

His career has enabled Laury to work in schools serving culturally and socially diverse communities in different countries and he has gained valuable experience in teaching children within a wide range of age, abilities and background. He is particularly interested in the idea of collaborative learning and it is clearly implemented in his planning and teaching. He decided to join BISS Puxi to set himself a new challenge in a world-class school and he is delighted to have joined our MFL Department.

Laury has a keen interest in music and sport and strongly feels that the balance it gives him enables him to enjoy life to its full.  In his formative years, he attended an 8-year Music course in the Music Conservatory of Arles, France where he learned Music theory and the practice of various instruments. He later joined a rock band as a drummer from 1997 to 2002, a time during which he successfully juggled with studies, rehearsals and concerts.

Laury firmly believes that his role as an educator is to create and provide opportunities for every student to maximise their potential and to enjoy the process of doing so.

What the students say about me...

“He is always trying to make us speak the language, whether we have to sing, rap, do a role play or record ourselves on camera.”

“Every activity is timed and it somehow motivates me and make me concentrate more.”

“We work collectively and the lessons are fun and interesting, but the homework was the most enjoyable – posters, making movies.”
