Year 11 Mock Examinations

The New Year brings about a whole new challenge for some of our students as it heralds the arrival of the year in which all of our Year 11s sit their IGCSE examinations in May and June. IGCSEs are held according to very strict rules and it is understandable that students are anxious about their first formal examinations. At BISB we believe that it is important to support our students in order that they are as prepared as possible and to try to remove as much of this anxiety as we can. As a result our Year 11s will take Mock Examinations which will be held from 27th January to 6th February. They will sit these under exact examination conditions in order that they learn exactly how the exams operate. They will have received their timetable by the time of the publication of this newsletter and they will have had an assembly to explain exam etiquette. Also, throughout this term all Year 11s will take part in a Study Skills Enrichment session to help them with their revision and exam taking.

Finally, to support them during the exam period they will have study leave in between exams during both the mocks and the actual exams later in the year. This means that during the exam period they will only be required to be in school for the duration of their actual exams. They need to spend the time between exams revising and we would suggest that is done much more effectively at home. Students are expected to arrive in school AT LEAST 15 minutes before each exam and if they would prefer to stay in school to revise the library will be available at all times.

I will be sending home letters with permission slips for you to sign in order to authorise study leave during the next week.
