Jambo from Tanzania!

The Year 9s have just returned from a fantastic trip to Tanzania, and the memories and experiences are still fresh in all of our minds. It was an incredible experience, and one that none of us will ever forget!

Whilst we were there we had the chance to take part is a huge variety of activities; from service work, safari and a village tour. The students had the chance to meet some of the local people, see where they lived and how they supported their families, and learn about their culture and traditions.

All of our students completed service work whilst in Tanzania; the Goat Shed Project. This involved building a goat shed and providing a goat for families who were struggling to support themselves. This is a particularly valuable and sustainable project, as the families can now use the goat to provide milk for themselves (a much needed source of food), and can also sell some of their milk for income. Any offspring of the goat can also be sold to provide additional income – one kid can be sold for about $50, which is a huge amount of money in this area. By taking part in this project, our students have really been able to make a difference to the lives of the locals we worked with.

Now that we are back in school, our students have to decide how to spend the rest of the fundraising. They will use their experiences, and all that they learnt whilst on the trip, to make a decision about what the best use of fundraising will be, in order to make the best and biggest impact on the lives of the local people.

More photos and videos will be coming soon!
