MRISA AX an opportunity for artistic collaboration

At MRISA Arts Exchange (AX) secondary students come together for a four day immersive experience in the arts with peers from the other MRISA schools.

This year the event was held at the International School of Ho Chi Minh City. We had two students from Grade 6, one student from Grade 7, five students from Grade 8, two students from Grade 9, one student from Grade 10, and four students from Grade 11 represent our school in Visual Art, Music, Drama, and Dance.

Over four days students received a range of experiences in the arts. They took teacher led workshops that worked towards a longer performance piece, student-led workshops in all disciplines, and participated in the Creative Odyssey.

Creative Odyssey allowed students in mixed groups to complete challenges given by the teachers in Visual Art, Dance, Music, and Drama in a competition for points. They then had only one hour to create a performance piece utilising all four disciplines and include STEAM.

The criteria for judging these performances were Creativity, Performance, Integration, and Collaboration. Some of our students were among the three groups with the highest scores. Bunhuy Eung and Dalen Lim’s group placed 1st. Meiyean Sok’s group placed 2nd. Ratana Sarann’s group placed 3rd.

MRISA AX/STEAM

On the last day of the Arts Exchange, Visual Arts had an impressive gallery exhibition to showcase their artistry. Our own Visual Arts teacher Ms Jen Arvay lead an innovative workshop that included stenciling, print-making, and fashion design, while Music, Drama, and Dance put on a full production.

Our dance teacher Ms Yabei Chen lead a fun, collaborative Dance workshop that mixed Swing Dance elements with Hip-hop and encouraged student choreography.

We are so very proud of our artists that attended and represented our school with their talents, creativity, and ambition. The positivity and collaboration that occurred was a true reflection of the nurturing environment for the Arts here at Northbridge.
