International Day

Firstly big thanks to Ms Liv and Ms Nel for organizing another wonderful International Day, one of the biggest events of the school year. Special thank you to parents who contributed to the cultural performances and food stalls, helping us embrace the special and united spirit found at Northbridge, remember 'We are many communities, but we are one!'.

At the meeting, the Parent Council (PC) gave feedback on ways to make the event even better next year:

- To improve organization, the PC suggests placing country flags on the wall of the gym so students and parents know exactly where to stand before the flag parade starts.

- The PC also suggests instead starting the flag parade from the walkway outside the Hub, with an announcer calling out each country's name when it's their turn to begin moving.

- To build atmosphere, suitable music should be played during the flag parade, and when the flag bearers go up on stage

- There were too many students trying to visit the food stalls at the same time, therefore the PC recommends next year Primary and Secondary students visit at different times

- The PC also suggests that the food stalls be allowed to stay set up and serve longer so that more students can visit them, which means replacing the normal snack and lunch services

Mr Richard appreciated the feedback and suggestions, and said he would pass them to Ms Liv and Ms Nel. We all look forward to the improvements for next International Day!

Cafeteria

The PC has noticed the Cafeteria is selling food like chips and popcorn while parents are promoting no junk food to their kids. However, Mr Richard clarified that the chips and popcorns served by the catering company are actually homemade, and contains the right levels of sugar for kids.

Some parents queried whether the school could provide a fridge for students to store fruit they bring from home.

Database

A few parents gave feedback that the database information for their kids is correct in our school IT system, but they still receive reports with wrong spellings. Mr Richard promised to  try to solve this problem with the IT team as soon as possible.

Sports Hall

The PC suggested to put up rule signs in the Sports Hall so that students and NBC residents are reminded to look after the facility and equipment. The school notes that signs are already present, but wil consider adding additional signage.

Chinese Classes

Some parents gave feedback that in lower grades, the school has separated Chinese classes for native speakers, and non-native speakers, but students in Grade 4 and above are combined in one class, despite different abilities. Mr. Richard will look into this and get back to the PC at the next meeting.

Swimming Pool / Aquatics Centre

Parents praised the school for providing a stretcher for emergencies at the swimming pool. Parents are also very happy and excited about the new Aquatics Centre - work has started, and it is planned to be complete by August 2020. We all thank Mr Richard for his great effort to make this happen.
