It has been fantastic to see how caring our Northbridge Grade 9 students have been with new arrivals Is academic success enough? There’s no question that academic success is a huge part of what we’re about here at Northbridge International School Cambodia. However this alone is not enough as we prepare our students for the world of the future. We also place a high value on students being balanced, caring and principled; these attributes form part of the IB Learner Profile and our school wide Learner Outcomes.

Is academic success enough? There’s no question that academic success is a huge part of what we’re about here at Northbridge International School Cambodia. However this alone is not enough as we prepare our students for the world of the future. Over 20 new students joined Grade 9 at the start of the Academic Year and it has been fantastic to see how caring their fellow Grade 9 students have been as they have welcomed them to the Northbridge community.

We encourage our students to be balanced by taking advantage of the many opportunities that are available to them. This semester, Grade 9 students have been valued members of Model United Nations (MUN), taken part in a wide variety of sporting competitions, as well as numerous activities such as those organised by STUCO.

Through Nord Anglia Global Campus, a number of Grade 9 students visited Tanzania where they helped to build  classrooms for a local school. All students at Northbridge take part in community service activities, which bring numerous benefits for all involved. This includes placing students at a distinct advantage when it comes to university applications.

Next semester we look forward to our annual Mission in Action trip. Grade 9 will be heading to Battambang, where we will be taking part in circus skills workshops with Phare Ponleu Selpak, a Cambodian non-profit arts school offering support to children, youth and the surrounding communities through artistic, educational, social and community outreach and engagement programmes. Continuing the theme of service, we will also be visiting SOS Children’s Villages International where our students will be running a variety of activities for local children.

As we head into Semester Two, students will be delving into new Units of Inquiry, developing subject specific skills, being ambitious as they aim for our school wide Learner Outcomes,  as well as striving for the balance required to be successful global citizens.
