Donal O’Connell

Staff Profile - Donall O'Connell

Head of Department for Individuals and Societies, Diploma Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge Core Coordinator, Teacher of Diploma Programme Geography, Teacher of Diploma Programme History, Theory of Knowledge Teacher

Donal has been a teacher for 12 years and has formerly taught in Thailand and Chicago, USA.  He is in his second year at Northbridge International School Cambodia where he teaches with his wife, Kate O’Connell.

  • Bachelor of Arts, University of Wisconsin at Madison
  • Master’s in Education and Social Policy, Northwestern University
  • Teaching certification from the State of Illinois, USA

Donal came to teaching late, having had 2 successful careers before returning to Northwestern University to earn his Master’s in Education & Social Policy. He enjoys challenging his students to apply their thinking in Geography and History to help solve the global problems facing the world today. He also enjoys leading the DP Core Program, which allows him to be involved in the Extended Essay and TOK aspects of the IB Diploma on a whole-school level. 

Donal is married to Kate O’Connell, a PYP Workshop Leader and Board member of Compass Education. He has two small children, DJ and Alanna, and in his free time enjoys reading, playing and watching sports as well as spending time with friends.
