Students and CAS

Hear from our Grade 9 students who explain the aims and benefits of Creativity, Action and Service (CAS) and outline the personal growth they experienced as a result of this programme.

HYUN CHAN

 

"Over the past two years, I participated in numerous CAS activities. When I first started the CAS, I aimed to participate in as many activities as possible. Now that I look back at past two years, I think I have achieved my aim and participated in various activities from NISC Radio to MRISA Sports teams. I think the benefits of CAS were noteworthy. I was able to make new friends from the activities that I would never have met if I didn’t do CAS. I was also able to further develop my strengths and improve upon my weaknesses. CAS also allowed me to look around me and help others who are in needs. As a result of the CAS programme, I believed that I became more caring and balanced person. I became more aware of the situation around me. I also have become more balanced person by experiencing various activities. After all, the CAS programme felt worthwhile and turned me into a better person."

BUTH

 

"CAS aims to develop students' awareness on the different aspects, which happen around the world. Students learn how to balance between school and social life. With CAS, students are able to experience various activities from helping at a local NGO to running a half marathon, to painting an art piece. CAS benefits IB students around the world in so many ways. Students are able to strengthen their mind and body through their chosen activities. Also, students are able to see the world from different perspectives and deal with real life situations. As an IB students, who has completed the CAS programme, I truly enjoyed my time and the experience I gained. I was able to explore the different activities such as my participation in the Model United Nations, STUCO, 3,10,21 run, a visit to a local NGO and other interesting activities, which have enabled me to improve as an individual and a global citizen. I also noticed that I have grown in different areas such as my collaboration skills, facing new challenges, discussing issues related to real life situations. Therefore, CAS has helped me grow and become a person full of self-awareness and consideration toward others in my community and on a global scale."

KAKADA

 

"I personally would express that Creativity Action and Service (CAS) has made me understand the world and especially understand my country. The aims of CAS are to encourage students like me to make the world be a better place and to help people change their lives to better happiness. During my 2 years of high school, I have done such a wonderful assessment to help my country change. Plus, within this assessment, I have gained numerous experiences which persuade me to understand about my people’s life. I have planned every single day to find out what I should do to achieve my goal before graduating from high school. So, I have helped people like NGOs in Cambodia, working with people to change the life of poor kids to become educated. All these actions have made me aware of the meaning of “LIFE”. ​ ​So, CAS has changed me from an unknown person to a meaningful person who puts in effort to help and wants to see the world differently. Although, I am about to leave high school, I still think about CAS and will never give up helping others."

EUNYOUNG

 

"CAS is an activity which allows IB students to engage in various extra curriculums apart from academic studies. Through CAS activities, I’ve mainly learned three things: what I enjoy, how to be balanced and why IB is the best high school curriculum. ​​Throughout two years, I have done 10 CAS activities – Flute project, Habitat for Humanity, DP Parent Information Night, Golf, Gym, Model United Nations, NISC Orchestra, Teaching Korean, Mission in Action and learning Chinese. ​ ​Especially, the flute project was my CAS project created by myself and constantly done for two IB years. This activity gave me invaluable experiences. For example, through playing the flute, I was able to release stress and be more calmed before focusing on something. Also, I had a lot of performances in front of an audience, so I could learn how to interact with an audience, not just play the flute alone. From these experiences, I found my interest in music more and I want to keep playing the flute for my hobby even after I finish IB. ​ ​Creativity, Action and Service are basic things we need to have to be balanced students. With a busy IB schedule, I believe being able to manage ourselves to accomplish CAS is the most significant thing that IB teaches us, which makes IB the best high school curriculum."
