At Léman International School Chengdu, we are proud to offer students the opportunity to participate in the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award—a globally recognised programme that develops essential life skills, resilience, and independence beyond the classroom.

The Award is open to young people aged 14 to 24 and is designed to challenge and inspire students to discover their potential through a balanced framework of personal development. Participants choose activities across four key areas: Service, Skills, Physical Recreation, and Adventurous Journey, with an additional Residential Project at Gold level.

Award Levels

  • Bronze Award – open from age 14+
  • Silver Award – open from age 15+
  • Gold Award – open from age 16+

Students progress at their own pace, setting personal goals and taking ownership of their development. The Award is non-competitive and inclusive, recognising commitment, perseverance, and growth rather than comparison with others.

Participation in the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award supports students to:

  • Build confidence, leadership, and teamwork

  • Develop time-managementand organisational skills

  • Strengthen resilience, independence, and problem-solving

  • Enhance university and career applications through a respected international qualification

  • Engage meaningfully with their community and the wider world

Our Current Cohort

We are delighted to currently have 12 students actively engaged in the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award at LIS Chengdu. New participants are welcome to join at any time, and students can begin at the level most appropriate for their age and experience.

Recent Highlight

A recent highlight for our current participants was First Aid training, completed in preparation for their upcoming Adventurous Journeys. This valuable experience equipped students with practical, real-world skills, while also reinforcing responsibility, teamwork, and preparedness—key principles at the heart of the Award.
