Diversity Day

Diversity Day - Diversity Day

Here at Léman International School Chengdu our annual Diversity Day transformed our school into a vibrant celebration of cultures, traditions, and global connections!

Throughout the day, EYFS and Primary students explored a focus country in more depth through stories, art, music, dance, and hands-on learning experiences that encouraged curiosity, understanding, and appreciation for cultures across the globe. Sticky rice and mango from Thailand, traditional face painting from the Tuxá tribe of the Brazilian Amazon, and artistic recreations of the majestic Peruvian Andes brought the wider world to our classrooms.

The afternoon brought even more excitement as students visited the incredible country booths hosted by our Léman Family Association. Armed with their passports, students collected stamps while travelling from country to country, tasting delicious foods, taking part in research, quizzes and challenges, learning traditional games, and experiencing cultural activities firsthand.

From Canada’s energetic hockey coaching sessions - bouncing over to the ‘pop pong’ of the USA, over to Spain’s lively football area and then threading our way to the popular jewellery creation station of Turkey - there was something exciting around every corner.  Turkey also brought endless laughter with its famous “trickster” ice cream seller and his ever-growing queue of delighted visitors, while Pakistan created a beautifully colourful experience with intricate mehndi designs painted onto hands. We were even visited by a Russian bear! Thankfully, he was friendly and his rider had excellent control of him.

Exquisite hanbok from Korea and intricate Chinese calligraphy provided a feast for the eyes, whilst elsewhere the culinary flavours of the world were equally unforgettable — crispy Chilean empanadas, creamy and crunchy cucumber sandwiches and sweet Scottish shortbread, flaky French croissants, buttery Bavarian pretzels and spicy Pakistani pakora tantalised tastebuds and brought people together through the universal joy of food.

More than just a celebration, Diversity Day was a powerful reflection of our school community: inclusive, joyful, globally minded, and deeply connected through respect, curiosity, and shared experiences. A huge thank you to our families, staff, and students for making the day such a memorable success!
