Sports at NAISAK
NAISAK kicked off the sports season last week with two U16 Volleyball tournaments and an Indoor Athletics competition. Our U16 girls and boys teams went to ASD to take part in the annual QUESS tournament against other international private schools in Qatar. It was the first time both teams have competed in a competition such as this. The girls came so close to beating ASD in their first ever match, losing by only one point. Despite not winning a game, they left with a real buzz of excitement wanting to do more, which was exactly what we wanted. The boys took on ASD A team and Sherborne, sadly losing to both. However, their final game against Compass MK was a real nail biter. MK called a time out when the score was 19 – 14 to us; we had server and needed two more points to seal the win. It was not as easy as they thought. A bad serve gave MK a chance to recover and they did winning the next few points. NAISAK held their nerve though winning 23 – 21! The boys were so pleased!
Our U10 and U11 Primary students went to Doha College West Bay to take part in the annual QPPSSA Indoor Athletics competition against other schools in the North League. Students compete in 10 events gaining points for their team. There were some real improvements from last year, especially in the jumping activities and the standing balance. Students have been practising hard during their PE lessons and this paid off. Both teams finished 6th, which was an improvement from last year so well done to all who took part. A special thank you to Mr Fabien, one of our parents, for coming along to help with the U10 team. Your support was much appreciated. The U8 and U9 teams will compete this Tuesday.
