Message from Stacy Bellingham, Director of Special Education Needs.

At Nord Anglia International School Al Khor we are committed to meeting the needs of all students, including those who require additional support, in line with the Qatari Ministry of Education and Higher Education’s guidance. With this in mind, Mr Randall, Secondary SEN Coordinator, and myself attended the SENIA providers fair on Tuesday 5th November.  This gave us the opportunity to talk to other professionals working in special educational needs, and discuss the services available in Qatar for students who require additional support in order to achieve their full potential.

SENIA is the international Special Education Network and Inclusion Association.  This is an association of educators, other professionals and parents that exists to advocate for and provide resources and support for differently-abled individuals.  Their vision is to live in an inclusive world where every individual is supported, resources are accessible, potential is maximised and action is inspired.

We spoke to representatives from a variety of organisations.  Here are some of the services they provide:

  • Multidisciplinary therapy and support;
  • Qualified professionals who provide diagnostic assessments and offer assistance with identified conditions;
  • Training for nannies and caregivers;
  • Groups to focus on specific skills, including academic, social and motor skills;
  • Assistive technologies;
  • Speech and language therapy in a variety of languages;
  • Summer camps and other activity programmes.

We want all children to get the support they need to reach their full learning potential. We have a system which focuses on overcoming barriers to learning with the aim of getting it right for every child. If you would like further information about the provision available in school, if you believe that your child has special educational needs, or if you require assistance in referring to an external provider, please contact the relevant SEN Team in Primary or Secondary to make an appointment or contact the class teacher/form tutor to express your concerns.
