Welcome to the monthly update from the Northbridge International School Cambodia Parent Council, which follows their regular meeting and discussion. Here are the topics that were addressed at this month's meeting.
International Day
International Day is just around the corner on Friday 1 November!
Performances: The final auditions for the performances will take place on the following days: Monday 14 October and Monday 21 October in the Makerspace Studio from 3-4pm. If you are interested in performing in the event, please contact Ms Liv: liv.bazley@nisc.edu.kh
Food Stalls: We will also have food stalls representing different nationalities after the performance. If you are interested in hosting this food stall, please contact Ms Nel: events@nisc.edu.kh
Important: To promote green consumption and reduce environmental waste, we encourage all parents not to use plastic plates or styrofoam for their food stalls – if you need help ordering paper containers, please contact Ms Nel: events@nisc.edu.kh. We also encourage students to bring their own plates, folks and spoons from home to sample all the amazing food.
International Day is one of the biggest events of the school year, and we encourage all our parents to get involved and embrace the special and united spirit found at Northbridge International School Cambodia. Remember, “We are many communities, but we are one!”
Primary Curriculum
At the meeting, parents provided feedback to Mr Richard that the Primary curriculum has noticeably improved, for example students are now bringing maths textbooks home to practice, which also gives parents a better idea what their kids are learning.
Parents then suggested that the school could introduce a regular 'Show and Tell' time starting from EL4, as it’s a very good way for small kids to learn how to express themselves in front of their class.
ManageBac
As we have many new teachers in Secondary this year, some parents gave feedback that some may not be familiar with how ManageBac fully works, and that the school should provide more training for them.
Mr Richard confirmed that this is already ongoing. He also reminded that the school will provide a ManageBac Workshop for Parents at the coming Parent Coffee Morning being held tomorrow Friday 11 October in the Hub – see you there!
LEAP After-School Program
Due to an incident in LEAP two weeks ago, some parents wanted to know more about the safety procedures in school, and who parents should call upon for immediate help in an emergency situation, and where they should go. Parents also wondered whether the school could provide Teaching Assistants for the Early Learning children during the LEAP program.
Mr Richard explained that the school applies ratios of adult coaches to students in line with the rest of the school day, but it also depends on the number of participants, the age of the students and the type of the LEAP program being offered.
Mr Richard wants all parents to understand that student safety is the top priority in our school, and we follow a strict safety system that adheres to international standards. However, he did also point out that accidents and injuries are also a natural part of our children growing up.
If any parents have more questions or feedback on the school's LEAP Program, please free to send an e-mail with details to pc@nisc.edu.kh and we will ask Ms Hannah for assistance.
Secondary 3 Way Conferences
We were very pleased to hear about the high participation of parents at the Secondary 3 Way Conferences this year, with an average attendance from Grades 6 to 12 of 73%, and as high as 92% in one Grade 12 form! The feedback was this was the result of the school calling directly to parents to inform them of the importance of coming.
