On Tuesday 1 May, the Year 1 Team welcomed parents into the classroom to take part in four fun, hands onexperiments with their child. The day was to celebrate all things Science! Together, the parents made lava lamps and learned how oil and water don’t mix. They created glitter explosions and made discovers about chemical reactions. The children loved getting messy when making cornstarch goo as well invisible ink. A great few hours had by all!
The Year 2 Science Fair was a fantastic opportunity for children to work alongside their parents, exploring scientific concepts. We worked on a carousel whereby all children were able to conduct 4 experiments over the course of the fair. We were learning about friction by testing different surfaces that a vehicle could travel over. We were also learning about dissolving by observing what happens when water is mixed with the hard sugar shell of a sweet. Did you know that there is iron in cereal? We were using magnets to try to attract it from the Cheerios. Finally, we were learning about reactions and how different chemicals can produce something new when they get mixed. The afternoon was a great success and everyone loved exploring science in action.
