With so much sport at St Andrews International School Bangkok, we explain all of the different leagues and conferences in which we participate. Catch up on football, basketball, tennis, biathlon, swimming, and volleyball news. And stay healthy over the break with sport camp options.

Sporting Conferences

We appreciate that you are often hearing different acronyms - BISAC, FOBISIA - that we are involved in but may not know much about them. We hope that the following overview will therefore be useful.

We are currently members of four conferences or organisations:

TISAC: Thailand International Schools Activities Conference

We have been members for many years. This has 16 schools involved which vary in size from small to very large. Currently, we mostly enter Blaze teams in TISAC. There are leagues and tournaments in several sports from U9-U19 and next year, TISAC will also start its own multi-sport Games for Primary children.

BISAC: Bangkok International Schools Athletic Conference

This is our first year in BISAC. The 12-school membership includes the largest international schools in Bangkok in leagues and tournaments across many sports, from U9-U19, split into four seasons through the year. BISAC schools also run invitational tournaments that we often enter. BISAC includes Tennis, Badminton, Volleyball and Gymnastics competitions.

FOBISIA: Federation of British International Schools in Asia

This has three major multi-sport Games per year (Primary, U13 and U15) that take place in Phuket against other member schools, which currently totals about 50. There are also single-sport events in Tennis, Golf, Swimming and more, which take place across Asia and provide some amazing travel opportunities.

NAE: Nord Anglia Education

We are part of the South East Asia division and meet for a U11 multi-sport Games once a year. Our schools take it in turn to host the NAE Games.

In addition, we are part of the wider circuit locally and regionally which means we are invited to a whole range of other events across Thailand.

Currently we are able to offer STA students opportunities through these conferences in Football, Basketball, Swimming, Tennis, Rugby, Touch, Badminton, Volleyball, Golf, Teeball, Track and Field, Triathlon, Cross Country.

If you have any questions about these conferences, please don’t hesitate to contact Mr. Ollie (HS - ollie.fa@standrews.ac.th) or Mr. Damon (PS - damon.se@standrews.ac.th).

Football

Our U15 Boys Football team completed a convincing win in BISAC League action on Monday. With the season now in full swing, the boys are showing the results of their year-round hard work in training.

Saturday Basketball Tournament

Just a reminder that this Saturday is our season-ending tournament.

  • U13s: 8.00-10.30am
  • U15s: 10.30am-1.00pm.

Please note that these times are outside normal training times. U13s should turn up by 7.45am ready to tip-off at 8.00am. If your child is also in our Biathlon, don’t worry! They may join bball when they’ve finished their event.

Tennis

Please sign up on Moodle for ECA tennis. We have lots of options across several days, so we hope to involve as many students as possible in this great sport!

STA Biathlon

On Saturday 8 December, we’re hosting our first ever Biathlon event and we’re excited that 200 students and parents have signed up!

There will be several races on the day through and round the High School campus and pool. Please think about getting involved - it’ll be a fun way to encourage your child to be fit and active.

Swimming

Just a kind reminder that Monday, 3rd December is the last day of Term 1 ECA and Swim Squad. The Term 2 swimming programme will be back in action starting Monday, 14th January and it will get even busier down the road with the Puppy Cup meet in January and much anticipated Marlin Mayhem in March!

Volleyball Christmas Special

Please come and watch the fun of our parent-student volleyball tournament on Tuesday 4 December, involving our U15G, Varsity Girls and Spicey Spikers teams. We’ll have xmas music, silly hats and some party food!

We love seeing our girls involved in sport and the mums’ team shows how easy it is to stay involved as adults. Such a good example for our STA girls!

Elevate Invitational Tournament

On Sunday, we sent a U16 boys’ team made up of our best under-16 Varsity and U15 ballers to a large invitational tournament here in Bangkok.

Our Flames team showed tremendous persistence in winning games from behind, including a tough semi and final, both of which were against Academy teams. Despite a size mismatch (our boys were mostly much smaller) they closed out the final with a hard press in the closing stages that led to several turnovers and our boys easing to victory to claim another trophy for the year.

We praise the team for all the attributes that they showed on court and we’re very proud of this home-grown bunch of ballers, many of whom have been with us since Primary, including Damian who was voted tournament MVP!

Healthy Holidays

We’re planning for two camps over the holidays before Christmas: our Multi-Sport Camp and our Basketball camp. More details will follow by email soon.

Keep in touch

Please stay up-to-date by joining our STA Flames & Marlins Facebook closed group for parents and students who are part of our Sports Programme.

As it’s a closed group not open to the general public, please complete the questions so that we know if you’re part of our STA community.

Parents may post to this group and it’s been great to see some of your photos of our kids in action!
