High School: “Tomorrow, as they say, is reserved for dreams.”

It’s the week of the High School Production - There are still a few tickets available for each performance.

It was a very busy weekend in the High School, with the school hosting our fifth annual STAMUN (see below), the BISAC Under 15 Girls Volleyball Tournament and rehearsals for the High School Production, one of the highlights of every school year in the High School.

Fifth Annual St Andrews Model United Nations (STAMUN) Conference

From Friday the 26th to Sunday the 28th of April, the St Andrews MUN Club held the fifth annual St Andrews Model United Nations Conference. Unlike the conferences before, this year’s Conference was a regional Nord Anglia conference, with a delegation flying in from overseas.

Model United Nations is an opportunity for students to engage in diplomacy and world issues, by acting as delegates of nations tackling topics of global urgency in the format of a United Nations committee. Students work together to negotiate and come up with solutions to such pressing issues, while developing skills such as public speaking, writing and research. This year’s STAMUN conference had four committees: the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and a STAMUN first - the World Health Organisation. At STAMUN V, students discussed a variety of topics under an overarching theme of sustainability. Students from Northbridge International School Cambodia (NISC), International Pioneers School (IPS), the Thai Sikh International School (TSIS), Bangkok Preparatory School (BPS), King Mongkut’s International Demonstration School (KMIDS), International Community School (ICS) and of course STA engaged in fruitful debate on issues from the self determination of Tibet to improving access for those with disabilities in urban areas.

The secretariat (Michelle, Manon, Sasha, Yujin, Destiny from Y12) were especially pleased with the success of the conference, especially since it was relatively small in size - with only 55 attendees in total.

Bugsy Malone

bugsy malone

After eight months of planning and rehearsals, including full days on Friday and today as well as Saturday, the first performances of Bugsy Malone are tomorrow (you’ll recognise my headline when you watch). There are still some tickets remaining for the two evening performances, available from the Cashier’s window in the High School Office.

This week also sees the start of IGCSE (Thursday) and IBDP (Friday) exams.

Royal Coronation Ceremony of HM King Rama X Assembly

We end the week with a special assembly to commemorate the The Royal Coronation Ceremony of HM King Rama X. This will be an important event for our school community to pay tribute to H.M. King Maha Vajiralongkorn and the Thai Department would much appreciate and would like to encourage all students to dress properly in a respectful yellow shirt, school uniform shorts,  trousers or a skirt and proper shoes. Yellow shirts with inappropriate messages or patterns, denim or sandals will not be allowed to be worn for the celebration. We appreciate your support in following the guidelines for this special occasion.

Monday is a public holiday, so the school will be closed, and then next week we have Years 7 - 10 Tutor Group and Individual Photos (Your son/daughter's Tutor will e-mail with more specific details) and the first of our “Bonus Mondays”, with next Wednesday’s lessons following the usual Monday timetable.
