Primary School Music: Baby Shark inspires Chicks and Lambs A wonderful collaboration between St Andrews International School Bangkok Year 6 students and FS2/3 students created a new version of a favorite song.

A wonderful collaboration between St Andrews International School Bangkok Year 6 students and FS2/3 students created a new version of a favorite song.

STA Strum and FS2/3 share a favourite song - The Baby Shark Song!

Last Friday, STA Strum joined FS2/3 classes for a sing-a-long! First the Y6 children helped the younger students to understand the difference between guitars and ukuleles, and demonstrated some of the features of the instruments. Then we all sang Baby Shark together. The Chicks and Lambs then came up with another animal and we made our own version of the song - Baby Crocodile!

It was a lovely opportunity for our younger students to learn a little more about stringed instruments, to hear a group of ukuleles and guitars perform live and to be inspired by our older students. STA Strum enjoyed showing off their skills to the younger children and performing in this informal setting. What fun!

House Music Competition - Auditions!

As we near the end of the school year, it is time to prepare for the House Music Competition 2019!

This year, auditions will be in music lessons during the following weeks:

  • Year 1-5 – during music lessons from 3-7th June

  • Year 6 – Monday-Tuesday 10-11th June – if your child is going to Fobisia games, please come and see me to audition before they go to Fobisia.

The finals will then take place on June 24th:

  • Years 1-3  at 8:30am

  • Years 4-6 at 1pm

This year there will be 5 categories:

  • Piano

  • Voice (must use backing tracks, without the vocals; polite lyrics)

  • Other Instruments

  • Group

  • Family - a just- for-fun category where you can earn house points (even parents!) and we will choose some families to perform in the finals.

The children are allowed to do auditions for 1 solo (Piano, Voice, Other instrument) and 1 group. All auditions will receive 2 house points and groups can be mixed houses.

Preparing for an Audition

The children do not need to register in advance, they can just come prepared to audition in their music lesson during the week of 3rd-7th June (Y1-5) or Monday 10th/Tuesday 11th for Y6.

You can support your child by encouraging them to practice and perform to family members so they are really ready. Using an iPad to video themselves is a great way of improving their performance.

For singers, please encourage them to choose songs that are appropriate for their age, as we will only select finalists with polite lyrics! They must use a backing track without the vocals.

We are looking forward to hearing some wonderful auditions in June. Happy practising!
