An Exciting Musical Term Ahead

We begin the year by welcoming all the children of different nationalities in our school with an International Music Focus. We will be exploring African music in Y1, Thai music in Y4 and many of our ECAs will have an international flavour. We look forward to performances for Loy Krathong, International Day and are even thinking as far ahead as Christmas already!

Here in the Music Department, we are excited to welcome a new member of staff to our team. Miss Gig is a very experienced music teacher who trained in Thailand and the USA. She has taught in schools in California and in International Schools in Bangkok. This year she will work mainly with our Foundation Stage and KS1 children. She has training in the Orff Schulwerk approach to music education and is looking forward to using this technique during her lessons and in ECAs. Please give her a big warm St Andrews welcome when you see her!

Show Us What You Can Do - FOBISIA Auditions

In week 2, we will be holding auditions for singers and orchestral musicians who would like to join the FOBISIA Primary Music Festival held at the British School New Delhi. We are looking for musicians of around grade 2+ level. If you are not sure if your child is at the appropriate level, please send them to audition anyway. It is great experience and good for their music teachers to know what stage they are at in case other opportunities arise during the year or in case they’d like to join STA Band. Please see a video below from last year’s Primary Festival in Manila.

FOBISIA Primary Music Festival will take place from 12th-17th March at The British School Delhi. The approximate costs of the trip will be:

THB 30000 including flights, accommodation, food and Festival fee.

This does not include visa fees as per your child's nationality.

This price may go up or down depending on the numbers of students signing up but will hopefully give you a rough idea of the likely cost involved.

The children will attend a lunchtime ECA on Thursdays to learn repertoire and prepare for the trip. They should also be part of STA band or STA Sing as we will also cover some of the repertoire in these ECAs.

Sign up for auditions on Mrs. Alice’s classroom door (E13) for either Wednesday 28th or Thursday 29th August. If your child needs to get the bus, they should see me to arrange a lunchtime audition instead.

Instruments that are suitable for FOBISIA include - voice, strings, woodwind (not recorder), brass, percussion.

If your child is a guitarist or piano player, they may wish to join STA Band instead. Please come and see me to arrange a different time to show me their playing.
