BTEC Overview

The BTEC qualification was formed in 1996 and is a well established, esteemed career-focused qualification that can be studied alongside other qualifications to provide an extensive academic High School portfolio.

St Andrews International School Bangkok is one of the only schools in Thailand to offer student-centred BTEC programmes to students in Years 7-13. We are really excited to now be offering Level 2 and 3 BTEC subjects that will be integrated into our curriculums for Years 10 & 11 and our Senior Studies students.

The BTEC is an internationally renowned vocational qualification that provides a pathway to university and beyond. Designed and taught in collaboration with leaders and professionals in education and industry.

The approach of this highly established qualification is very practical. Your child will develop career-based competencies by applying what they have learnt in the classroom to real-life scenarios and environments. BTEC is highly regarded worldwide and provides equivalent qualification to the IGCSE, at Level 2 and IB at Level 3.

Why choose BTEC?
  • More than just a certificate – BTEC-qualified students continue applying what they learn during their BTEC course as they progress to university or a job – and throughout their future career.

  • Internationally renowned - The BTEC is recognised in over 60+ countries, including Thailand, UK, Canada and the US. More than 95% of universities in the UK recognise the BTEC qualification.

  • It gives your child real-world experience and know-how - The BTEC adds a different dimension to your child’s skill-set and capabilities, making them stand out to universities and future employers.

  • Access opportunities through BTEC partnerships - With leading organisations such as Liverpool Football Club, Chartered Management Institute, School of Marketing and many more.

Is the BTEC recognised by universities?
  • The BTEC is recognised in over 60+ countries, including Thailand, UK, Canada and the US as a pathway to higher-education.
  • It's a highly regarded & recognised pathway to university. A recent study in the UK highlighted that 1 in 4 students had at least 1 BTEC.
  • In addition to universities, BTEC is recognised by employers as a skills-based qualification that highlights real-world experience. 74% of employers want new hires with practical knowledge and skills combined
How is the BTEC assessed?

BTEC differs from the purely academic and traditional exam-based approach (There are no final exams at the end). It is assessed through coursework-based assignments and practical assessments that develop an expanse of applicable skills that universities and employers are continually seeking.

If your child wants to diversify their practical skills, the BTEC is the way forward. BTEC Team at St Andrews

Tailored-made routes

At St Andrews, we believe in providing learning opportunities that inspire and challenge our students while ensuring that we are meeting their individual needs. We have academic professionals, facilities and networks that allow us to be flexible in the combinations of pathways that we can offer. We can tailor your child’s pathway to graduation with the BTEC option according to their strengths and goals. It is a progressive and equally challenging route through High School that could bring the best out of your child. BTEC not only develops knowledge but through real-world experience it helps to develop the students who are confident learners, team members, enquirers, open-minded and have high levels of perseverance.

The best way to learn more about how this could benefit your child is to organise a meeting with our BTEC Team.
