Staff Profiles: Ms Ceris


Dance Teacher

I have worked in education for over a decade under several roles. I started as "artist in residence" teaching dance, drama and musical theater in UK schools both state and private arts schools. Eventually I became the Head of Dance at a reputable school in the south of England where I taught students aged 11 - 18 under the curriculum courses GCSE , A -Level and BTEC level 2 and 3. During this time I prepared several graduating students for prestigious Dance schools and conservatoires in the UK. In the last two years I have been in Jordan, working as a Director of Theatrical Productions and teaching MYP Drama.

Prior to teaching training, I trained at London Studio Center where I studied Ballet, Jazz (Mattox, Fosse, lyrical), Contemporary (Graham, Cunningham, Horton), and Musical Theater (acting, singing and dance). I have been fortunate enough to perform in several theaters in London and the South East of England including a tour of "Lucky Stiff" and "Stepping Out". In recent years I have become very interested in outdoor adventures and recently completed a 5 day hike from Dana to Petra. I am hoping I will find lots of hiking, kayaking and climbing opportunities now that I have come to Thailand.

St Andrews has a very well connected community, by this I mean the excellent use of technology to complete CPD and to stay connected to each other. Even before arriving I feel welcomed and involved in the day to day school life. The school has been incredibly supportive whilst my husband and I transition from one country to another and settle in. The main difference for me as an Arts Teacher is the connection to Julliard and all the benefits that brings to a classroom teacher; the amazing resources and training opportunities to name only a few.

During lockdown I had some very thoughtful emails from students that said I had made their learning fun and interesting and that they missed their lessons, some even said they didn't realise they enjoyed dance and drama until we worked together. I am hoping this means I found a way to make the subject accessible and interesting."
