Staff Profiles: Mr Richard

 Richard Cook

Year 1 Teacher (1R)

I have been living and working in Thailand since 2015, working at several different schools. I have taught many subject areas and ages and completed my PGCEi with the University of Nottingham in 2017. In recent years, I have specialised in lower primary education, looking at how students in Year 1 can benefit more from practices often associated with EYFS, including learning through play, station learning, and cross-curricular themed learning. I recently was a classroom teacher at another international school for a mixed Year 1 and Year 2 class teaching the British Curriculum, focusing on the UN's sustainable development goals.

At my last school, I undertook several training courses about STEAM education and project-based learning. I developed my teaching philosophy and implemented many innovative and exciting teaching practices that the students loved.

I have many creative hobbies, including writing, creating digital art and playing the piano. I also love sport and physical activity, particularly football, and I previously completed the London Marathon running for Children with Cancer UK. I have a great family who lives in Spain, where I go when returning to see them. In my free time, I enjoy reading, playing video games, exercising and cooking.

The students say I am funny, kind and make my lessons fun!

This school has a fantastic learning support department, promoting inclusivity and diversity throughout the whole school. The school also has a strong focus on student well-being and happiness, which are hugely important.
