Staff Profiles: Mr William

William Charles Hayman

Geography Teacher

Geography is a subject that is at the forefront of society and is therefore one of the most important subjects that students will study. It encourages students to challenge perceptions, be curious and be internationally minded. I graduated from the University of Liverpool in July 2012 with a 2:1 in Geography. Having worked as a Teaching Assistant for a year, I went on to complete my PGCE at Manchester Metropolitan University. I then secured my first teaching post at a school in Cardiff, where I taught Geography for 5 years. After 2 years, I was given a lead role in the schools pastoral system, working as an Assistant Head of Year for 3 years. This role involved the well-being and progress of students across a year group. I found the role both challenging and extremely rewarding and it certainly helped me develop both personally and professionally.

I am from Newport, Wales and I am so excited and appreciative to be able to have the opportunity to explore Bangkok and South East Asia. In my spare time, I enjoy watching my local football team, Newport County AFC. I am also a huge fan of Welsh rugby and am looking forward to watching them bring the cup home at the Japan Rugby World Cup this year! Finally, I love to cook (it helps me to relax, especially at the end of a busy day) and I also enjoy exploring new places around the city to eat.

I feel St Andrews is a school that considers the 'whole' child and its inclusive nature is something that is really important to me. The sense of community is evident, as is the care, guidance and respect that the teachers offer the pupils.

"I feel students would describe me as a fair, open-minded and caring teacher. I believe my pastoral experience has allowed me to build on these attributes."
