I have been teaching since 2001 and joined St Andrews in 2008. In the past I have worked in international schools in Moscow and Bangkok, as well as in London, where I grew up. I have worked in both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 and have been a subject leader for most of this time. I now work to develop our school's approach to sustainability both inside and outside the classroom. I'm delighted to have the opportunity to bring fresh ideas about how we can live and work in harmony with our planet to the school community.
I have completed a MSc in Education for Sustainability, with South Bank in London. This course has allowed me to develop my thinking about education further and consider how to teach more effectively for the challenges and opportunities our children will face in the future.
Why did I become a teacher? After graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Politics at Southampton University, I completed a PGCE teaching qualification because I wanted a job that was lively and interesting and felt primary school teaching would fit the bill. Teaching has certainly turned out to be both – educating children and seeing them develop is a rewarding and fascinating task.
I chose teaching internationally because of the opportunity it gives me to learn about people and places across the world. Bangkok is a fantastic place to be based if you like to travel, but I also enjoy being in Thailand with all its delicious food! My hobbies include writing, running and swimming.
I live close to school, with my wife, and have the responsibility of two quite naughty cats! And a toddler, who is bursting with energy! The students here are first rate, as they are hardworking, curious and polite - making them a pleasure to teach.
“Mr. Ewen you have made my Maths lessons especially fun.”
“Mr. Ewen, thank you for teaching me this year it has been a fantastic time!”
