St Andrews Bangkok students shine at FOBISIA MUN conference: Inspiring futures and embracing global perspectives in Hanoi - STA shines at Fobisia MUN conference

Eleven St Andrews Bangkok students from Year 7 through 11 represented STA at the FOBISIA MUN Conference held at the British International School of Hanoi from 9-12 November 2023. They had a fantastic chance to interact and work together with students from different schools in the region to talk about significant concerns regarding Asia's future like: tackling Illicit trade, child marriage, poor working conditions, drug trafficking and teen use, cyber security and cyber warfare, the role of women in Asia and the protection of women’s rights in the Israel Palestine conflict and cultural heritage and vocational skills in developing countries.

We were thrilled that our students had won three medals for Outstanding Delegates and one Honourable Mention at the conclusion of the conference. Aside from the major events, the conference included motivational speeches. For example, the British ambassador to Vietnam shared his experiences and difficulties as a diplomat and representative. And the second one was delivered by the UN representative from Japan, who talked about the challenges the UN faces today.

Finally, our students had the opportunity to participate in a number of cultural events and tours of some of the most well-known parts of Hanoi, such as the Old Quarter and Hoan Kiem Lake, during this trip. Overall, our students had an experience to remember. They had the opportunity to improve their leadership and communication abilities while learning more about the potential and challenges in Asia. We hope that more students will get the chance to participate in MUN conferences of this kind in the future.
