Dive into the future: DEEP unveils a world of marine discovery and conservation

The Deep Environmental Education Programme or DEEP is an integrated educational experience combining SCUBA diving skills with marine science learning and conservation. DEEP strives to instil a refined understanding of the marine environment, world-class SCUBA diving knowledge and skills, as well as a safety mindset that students can carry to all aspects of their lives.

The marine environment is one of the least understood, yet most threatened ecosystems on Earth. Tropical coral reefs are among the most biodiverse habitats on the planet, they represent just 1% of the total area covered by the oceans, yet they foster 25% of all life found there, and as such are extremely important to study, understand and preserve.

DEEP has been running in many schools across Bangkok for nearly four years and is delivered by a combination of marine biologists, researchers and SCUBA instructors who guide and assist students as they learn. Graduates of the programme have gone on to pursue Marine Biology undergraduate courses at universities in Australia and the UK.

There are a growing number of SCUBA divers at St Andrews Bangkok, with five new open-water divers certified during Term 1. DEEP@STA gives students the opportunity to learn new skills and explore the underwater world, immersing themselves in marine ecology and conservation, all whilst fun diving around the amazing coastline of Thailand.
