Celebrating kindness and community during Friendship Week 2024

friendship week

From 11th to 15th November, our school community came together for Friendship Week, a celebration of empathy, kindness, and the power of positive connections. This year’s theme, ‘Choosing Kindness’, resonated deeply, reinforcing the importance of treating others with respect and compassion in our everyday lives. Throughout the week, Primary School students engaged in various activities designed to highlight and strengthen the bonds of friendship. On Tuesday, 12th November, they recorded thoughtful videos and created posters reflecting on what it means to be a good friend. These creative exercises encouraged them to think critically about the role kindness plays in fostering meaningful relationships, emphasising that kindness is central to our school culture.

In PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic) lessons, students explored the dynamics of friendships in greater depth. Discussions focused on treating others respectfully, understanding the differences between rudeness, meanness, and bullying, and exploring practical strategies to resolve conflicts and build healthier, more positive interactions. For our youngest learners in the Foundation Stage, a special assembly brought kindness to life by using "kind words, kind hands, and kind feet." This age-appropriate approach helped children understand the value of showing kindness in their actions and words, creating a strong foundation for positive social interactions.

On Friday, 15th November, we extended Friendship Week to our parent community with a Parent Workshop titled “Navigating Friendships” led by Coach B. Parents gained valuable insights and practical tips to support their children in building and maintaining positive friendships, sparking meaningful discussions and new ideas. We are incredibly grateful to everyone who contributed to making our Primary School Friendship Week a success—our students, staff, and parents. The kindness and sense of unity shared during the week have made a lasting impact, and we look forward to continuing to cultivate these values in our school community.
