At St Andrews Bangkok, learning experiences beyond the classroom, such as residential trips, are a vital part of the curriculum, supporting students’ academic, personal, and social development.

Residential and trips programme at St Andrews

Our trips programme empowers students of all ages take their learning beyond the classroom. Day trips are a feature throughout the school, with our youngest students visiting exciting places around Bangkok, such as Safari Garden, Sea Life Ocean World, and the Thai Air Force Museum.

Alongside these day trips, our Primary School students have experiences designed to build their independence. This starts in Year 2 with a special sleepover at Primary School. This significant first step builds valuable confidence for future adventures. It prepares them for residential trips in Years 3 to 6, where they'll spend two to three nights in nearby areas, such as Khao Yai and Kanchanaburi, engaging in fun, hands-on activities.

In High School, the adventures continue to grow, with longer trips that feature outdoor pursuits such as rock climbing, hiking, and rafting.

Benefits of residential and trips for students

Cultivating independence and responsibility

Staying away from home, many for the first time, encourages students to take ownership of their daily routines. From managing their belongings to keeping track of time and making group decisions, students learn what it means to be independent. These experiences foster a strong sense of personal responsibility and self-reliance, skills essential for success both inside and outside of school.

Strengthening friendships and social skills

One of the most valuable aspects of residential trips is the opportunity to strengthen friendships in a relaxed, informal setting. Living and working closely with classmates fosters a sense of community and cooperation. Whether through shared laughter around a campfire, teamwork on a group hike, or reflection after a long day of activities, students develop deeper friendships and learn the importance of empathy, respect, and collaboration.

Facing challenges and developing new skills

Exploring natural landscapes, engaging with local communities, and navigating new activities can broaden students’ perspectives. These experiences challenge them to step outside their comfort zones, think critically, and appreciate the diversity of people and places around them.

Creating a foundation for lifelong learning

The activities our students take part in, whether physical challenges, cultural exchanges, or environmental projects, promote independence, resilience, and adaptability. They return to school not only with great memories but also with open minds and a stronger sense of self.

At St Andrews Bangkok, residential trips are more than just an exciting break from routine; they are carefully designed to support our students’ growth into confident, curious, and compassionate young people.
