English

Next week in English, the children will be using the shadow puppets they have been working on for their homework tasks to devise and perform a shadow puppet show! We will begin the week by revisiting some of the myths we read two weeks ago, and the children will then plan a myth using their puppets. They will rehearse dialogue, learn some of the conventions of a play script and record their shadow puppet shows using iPads.

To end the week, the children will be identifying ways they can develop their skills in writing by self-assessing some of their recent written work, setting targets for themselves for the next few weeks.

In guided reading, our focus will be on retrieving and recording information from non-fiction texts, and our spelling objective will be to continue investigating how we can use prefixes to create opposites.

Maths

In Maths next week, the children will be applying their new skills in written and mental multiplication and division by solving word problems involving these operations. The skills they will develop will include; reading and interpreting worded questions, choosing an appropriate operation, solving a problem and checking answers. They will also revisit fractions, developing the skill of finding and writing both unit and non-unit fractions of numbers.

Topic

Next week in topic, we begin our study of time and place, earth and space as Geographers. We will be finding out how the movement of the Earth and Sun creates different seasons, weather patterns and natural environments around the world.

In Computing, the children will learn how to animate characters using Scratch software.
