Lend your support to BIS Hanoi garden projects!

As global citizens we want to show how much we respect our planet and care about the environment. Encouraging enquiry, we have many activities and environment-themed lessons planned for Green Week all culminating on next Friday 9th June with a non-uniform "Wear Something Green" theme. Proceeds will go towards supporting the community garden, which will be providing an orchard of fruit trees to plant for those lucky competition winners.

Lend your support to BIS Hanoi garden projects! The British International School Hanoi garden is a wonderful environmental education tool, helping our students to reconnect with the natural world and understand the true source of food, highlighting healthy eating and improving nutrition.

The British International School Hanoi garden is a wonderful environmental education tool, helping our students to reconnect with the natural world and understand the true source of food, highlighting healthy eating and improving nutrition. We are looking to improve 3 areas of the community garden to stimulate even more interest, providing a focus rich outdoor learning environment to compliment study within curriculum subjects throughout the school:

Net house will be a wonderful addition to the existing community garden and will give the students a greater opportunity to learn more about sustainable farming and grow crops all year round, varieties which we wouldn’t normally be able to grow due to the climate here in Hanoi. This will include vegetables like bell peppers, cherry tomatoes, chilies, and lettuce.

Traditional vegetable patch - Pumpkins, potatoes, melons…..another style of growing for students to experience.  It would be fabulous to grow certain vegetables that maybe more recognizable to our international students/parents/teachers – International week springs to mind!

Chicken coup for free range hens - We have the perfect area, tucked out of the way, giving lots of shelter and safety for the hens. This will provide a fantastic opportunity to inspire and provide hands on experience for our students to learn about caring for animals. Building the chicken coup itself, we will be looking to re-use and recycle, as much as possible, using the existing materials that aren’t being used that we currently have here at the school.

There is no better environment than the garden in which to plant the seeds of knowledge, experience the joy of learning so that we may harvest a bountiful crop of lifelong learners.
