I have been teaching at a large inner-city London school, where I have taught both Year 4 and Year 6. I studied English and Sociology at The University of Sunderland. While studying for my degree, I ran a popular book club twice a week at a local Primary School. The club focused on reading strategies, as well as looking at ways to write stories, by making them engaging through using techniques that authors we were studying had used. This opportunity was what inspired me to become a teacher, so after graduating, I decided to carry on my studies at The University of Sunderland, completing my PGCE.

In 2007 I completed my degree in Early Childhood Studies and Psychology. From there I travelled to South Africa to work with a charity to help disadvantaged children learn to read. It was due to this experience that I decided to train to be a teacher with the ultimate goal of teaching abroad. I moved to London to study for my Post Graduate Certificate in Education, which I completed in 2009.

Choosing to become a primary school teacher is the best decision I have ever made. I can’t imagine having any other job. Every day is different, every child is unique and you embark together on a learning journey of discovery with lots of laughs and smiles along the way. At the beginning of my career, three years were spent in Scotland gaining experience in all stages of Primary. My first year of teaching was spent on Isle of Islay, a beautiful remote island off the west coast of Scotland. For the last four years I have been teaching on the sunny island of Cyprus. Teaching and living abroad has been a thoroughly rewarding experience for me.
