Staff Profile: Iva Borisavljevic

Iva Borisavljevic

Choral Teacher

After graduating from the Music Academy at Belgrade University with a Masters Degree in Music education (in 2006), I began my career as a choir conductor in Sydney, where I got my Degree recognised by the Australian Government and Ministry of Education. This gave me an opportunity not only to work and teach one-to-one and smaller group: voice, violin and piano lessons, but to establish and conduct the St Nicolas four part choir which mainly focused on religious and classical music.

My love and passion for choral music and conducting has started very early at the age of 5 and since then I have been a member of several professional choirs. During this time I have worked closely with world-famous conductors and singers, including a couple of performances with Zubin Mehta (at the Belgrade Summer Music Festival in 2005 and 2010).

I joined BSB Sanlitun in 2013 initially as a violin teacher, and then as the choral music teacher and choir conductor. During this period, choral singing at school has reached new heights and the BSB Sanlitun choir is now in demand to perform around Beijing. This has been an important step in my career as I have got an opportunity to implement a brand new Choral music program into the British national curriculum. I’m especially excited about the Juilliard-Nord Anglia collaboration and the new embedded performing arts curriculum and very much looking forward to the impact this will have on the current singing program, here at BSB Sanlitun, from September 2016.
