Journey to Success

It has been an exciting week in school as we welcome everyone back after what has been a very long summer break. It is wonderful to see so many familiar faces walk through our gates as well as welcoming new students and teachers on their very first day at CISD – I don’t know who was more nervous, our new students or our seven new teachers!

During the break, the school has remained very busy as we continue to identify areas for improvement, enhance our facilities and build upon our strengths as our journey to success continues.

I have to recognise both our graduating Year 13 and Year 11 students who performed extremely well in their examinations. In only our second examination cohort, our IB students managed a strong 78% pass rate and achieved an average score of 31 points. With a world average of 28 points, we are very happy with a special mention to Mujahid, who with 41 points, puts him in the top 4% of IB students across the world. Our Year 11 students’ results came next and they also accepted the examination challenge. With over 380 exam entries, they managed to achieve an 86% 5 x A* to C pass rate. This is a real success story and now puts CISD right alongside many of the best non-selective international schools both here in Qatar and across the world. Again, a special mention must go to Aisha who worked exceptionally hard to achieve 2 x A and 7 x A* passes. Exam passes is only one way to measure the success of a school but our journey of raising aspirations and expectations of all students continues to build momentum and this success is a result of previous year’s hard work and commitment by students, staff and parents.

The environment in which students learn is important and our school has invested in our learning space over the summer. Secondary school now has a brand new classroom; our science labs have been refurbished and all are now fitted with gas; the basketball court has been re-surfaced and we are trialling two new, state of the art, touch screen classroom monitors in both Computing and English. We have also moved and refurbished our prayer room into the heart of our school as well as adapt our lockers to accept padlocks, which should make life easier for our students. There have been many other, smaller scale improvements and we would like you to come and see them and, more importantly, meet your child’s Tutor at our ‘Meet the Teacher’ event on Wednesday, 27 October from 2.00pm to 6.00pm.

Opportunity to find success is important. Looking at our ECA programme and enjoying our assembly this week where teachers spoke about Tanzania Trips, Activities Week, Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme, Music clubs and auditions for our school production of Beauty and the Beast, there is certainly many ways in which your child can go beyond their limits and try something new this academic year.

Our journey to success will continue and for this to happen, we must have strong links with you, our parents. I would like to say thank you for choosing CISD and trusting us with your child’s education. We look forward to seeing you in school throughout the course of this new academic year.
