Visual Arts Curriculum

  • Visual Art
Lower School Visual Arts Program

The program develops in students an appreciation for all forms of visual expression and gives students opportunities to explore a variety of artistic media. Our students understand that different materials, techniques, media and processes all relate to communication in the visual arts. They learn to use the various structures, such as color, texture, sensory qualities, organizational principles and expressive features, to convey their ideas and feelings. Students also see how history, culture and the visual arts all influence one other.

Middle School Visual Arts Program

Students in Grades 6, 7, and 8 have the opportunity to learn art basics through exploration of multicultural connections and major trends in the history of art. This approach includes exploration of aesthetics, art criticism, art history and production in 2D painting and drawing, 3D sculpture and ceramics, and applied design.

High School Visual Arts Program

High School students explore foundational courses in 2D painting and drawing, 3D Ceramics and Sculpture, and Applied Design, including illustration, decorative arts and retail design. The curriculum is sequenced to encourage the study of art at an advanced level and allows students to develop college level skills in aesthetics, art criticism, art history and art creation.

Courses include Advanced Placement Portfolio, Advanced Placement Art History and International Baccalaureate classes.
