Q. Do I need a computer during school or in the dorm?
A. Yes. As a technology school, North Broward Prep requires all students to have a laptop. As a boarding student, your laptop will be provided to you by the school as a part of the fees you pay during your first year of enrollment. The laptop is the student's to keep. NBPS provides this service to enhance the technical support we may give as well as avoid any compatibility issues.
Q. What happens to boarding students during the various breaks?
A. During the Thanksgiving and Spring Breaks, students have the option to go on a school-organized trip or make other independent travel arrangements (permissions required). The school trips are included in the extra boarding fees and offer a chance to see more of America. During the winter and summer breaks the school completely closes down so students must vacate the dorms and make other arrangements during these breaks.
Q. Am I allowed to check out to a day student’s house for the weekend?
A. Yes. As long as the proper permissions are received and you are in good academic and disciplinary standing, we encourage students to spend time off campus with day student friends.
Q. What is the difference between the two campuses?
A. The Coconut Creek Campus is the main school campus, so all of the classes are this campus. This is also where the athletic and extra-curricular activities take place. As such, there is often limited space for boarding students to use facilities until the evening. Coral Springs Campus is located 15 minutes away and is a completely renovated facility. A dedicated boarding campus, Coral Springs offers fields, recreation and other facilities for boarding students to enjoy.
Q. Who will help students with college applications, SAT/TOEFL testing, and other such activities?
A. Working closely with our College Advising Office, the dorm parents and Residential Life Administration Team ensure that boarding students do not miss any opportunities. There are often special presentations and meetings designed for boarding students to address their unique concerns. Furthermore, we help coordinate transportation service and registration for any major test needed by a boarding student.
Q. Do I need to visit the school to apply?
A. No. The requirements for application are located on our Admissions page, and students may use Skype or other teleconferencing tools to speak with an admissions officer as needed to complete the application process.
