I moved from the UK to Beijing, China, in 2002 where I worked as a teacher in two international schools for 8 years. During this time, I also had my 2 children, Scarlet and Thomas. My husband and I enjoyed our time in Beijing, however, when a job opportunity arose for my husband at The British School of Guangzhou, we felt it was time for a move. When we came to visit BSG, we immediately felt a connection to it and were extremely happy with our decision.

Upon completion of my BSc in Psychology at The University of Liverpool, I have spent the majority of my professional life in the vicinity of education. Firstly, I undertook an Au Pair post in Switzerland. Being responsible for 3 young children, helping them progress through play, song and dance allowed me to gain confidence and sparked my interest in working with young individuals

After graduating from university, I have worked consistently with children of all ages. I have a degree in Paediatric Nursing, which I put to good use for ten years in the UK working in a very busy Childrens Hospital. In 2015 my husband was offered a teaching position here in Guangzhou to work at BSG, so as I was seeking a new challenge at that time, I decided to join him.

I graduated in 2010 and have subsequently taught across Key Stage 1 and 2, though primarily within the Early Year’s department. Early Years teaching is extremely rewarding, enabling the foundational life skills children require throughout their lives. Through play and formal teaching methods, I ensure that young children develop and flourish, guaranteeing they are confident and prepared to undertake the next steps in their educational journey.

I have been a teacher in Guangzhou for over three years, working primarily in Early Years education. For two of the three years, I managed a kindergarten, later moving on to concurrently managing a training centre as well. As someone who continually wants to improve and develop as a teacher, moving to BSG was an obvious choice, as for me it is the best educational institution that Guangzhou has to offer.

I have since been teaching English in China for 5 years, predominately working with young learners. Extraordinary academic success, teamed with strong values and an inspiring vision, make The British School of Guangzhou both an exciting and privileged place to be. This year I am thrilled to be joining the Nursery team and greatly look forward to a new adventure with my class.

Before going to university, I decided to move to Beijing for a year to work as a Teaching Assistant at a British school.  It was my first visit to China, and I fell in love with the country and travelling in Asia.  I returned to the UK to train as a Speech and Language Therapist, completing my Bachelor’s Degree in Human Communication at De Montfort University.  I then went on to do my PGCE at the University of Leicester, specialising in the Early Years Foundation Stage, as I enjoy working with young children, encouraging them to develop a love of learning from such an early age.
