Staff Profiles: Peter Sinclair

Head of Primary Music

I completed my B.Mus. (Performance) in Music and Music Technology at Kingston University before going on to complete a Postgraduate Graduate Certificate in Music Education (Primary) at the University of Buckingham. My earliest interest in music stemmed from choral and music scholarships at Portsmouth and later Wells Cathedral. As a classically trained baritone, I have sung with the Welsh National Opera, London Concert Choir and many smaller Chamber Choirs in the UK and beyond.

My first work was, surprisingly, in the manufacturing sector for a Pro Audio company in central London. I have been at the British School of Guangzhou for the past 10 years and during that time have had a significant role in leading and developing music programmes across the Primary School and within Guangzhou through community initiatives. I am an active performer and bring a love for music and music performance to the classroom. I am a strong supporter of Kodaly and Dalcroze teaching pedagogy in music education and have received certified training in these areas.

I have a passion for traditional English choral music and try to find time in my busy schedule to maintain and develop performance skills on organ, piano, vocal coaching and directing. My two other interests are music technology, particularly as it is applied to electronic music composition, and sailing. My favourite activity is spending time exploring the culinary delights of China and travelling with my wife, Calista. I also enjoy visiting family who reside in Pembrokeshire, South Wales, UK.
