Helen Russell

English Teacher & Head of Year 7

Believing that communicating with conviction and precision, as well as developing a love of literature, is integral to personal growth as well as academic success, teaching English has been my passion for the past 20 years. My experience is wide-ranging, from outstanding private and state schools in the United Kingdom to top-performing British schools situated in the deserts of Dubai and Bahrain.

Most recently, I have been working at Regents International School Pattaya, a Nord Anglia Education sister school in Thailand. During my career, I have held management posts but the classroom is where I feel truly inspired!  The decision to join The British School of Guangzhou was an easy one due to its excellent reputation as a place where young people are challenged and nurtured.

As well as teaching, I love learning.  Holding a degree in English and Music, I have since completed post-graduate work in Media Education and Educational Leadership.  Having been awarded a Master of Arts in Education degree, specialising in Applied Linguistics, I hope to start pursuing doctoral work next year.  Beyond this, I enjoy spending time with my family, exploring new places and reading.
