After studying rock and pop music in Liverpool, and Contemporary Music at the University of Leeds, I was an aspiring rock star for many years playing in numerous bands whilst teaching drum kit and percussion at schools in the south of England. It was at this time that my interest in encouraging, developing, and hopefully inspiring young people in music became a passion, and I took the step into full time teaching.
For the past six years I have worked as head of music at an international school in Penang Malaysia, and am now very excited to be part of a much larger team in a bigger and extremely impressive music department here at BSG. Having made the move from a small island in Malaysia, my wife and I are particularly looking forward to experiencing ‘big city’ life in Guangzhou with all the opportunities it has to offer.
Being a musician and music teacher means that I am very fortunate to have my main hobby and interest as my job. I love to perform music of different styles on percussion and drum kit, learn new instruments, and compose. I’m not a particularly sporty person but I do enjoy the more laid-back activities of hiking, scuba diving and mountain biking, and am also a very keen enduro dirt biker.
