Our Learning Journey

This week children continued to apply their knowledge of ‘Bear Hunt’ during their play. Some explored mixing paints and different textures to create oozy mud and slashy water while others adapted the story to a ‘monster hunt’. On Wednesday morning we even discovered bear footprints in our classroom which lead us on our own investigations.

It was very exciting having our our teddies visit our school. We designed our own picnic invitations and ate our snack with our bears under the trees this afternoon. We have also been discussing the similarities and differences with our bears. Coco, from NAP, has the largest bear in Nursery!

As Chinese New Year is around the corner, CNY activities such as arts and crafts, CNY singing and storytelling were carried out in the classroom. This has provided students with opportunities to take part in the celebration of one of the most important Chinese festivals.

Physical Education

In PE this week, the children have been learning to improve their speed and technique in running. They have also been learning to turn take in teams. In swimming, the children have been reviewing previous lessons in order to remind them of their freestyle technique.

In Music this week your children have learned a new song, The Lion Sleeps Tonight and have sang all its different parts and verses. Accompanied by percussion instruments they were able to respond very well to changes in dynamics and tempo.  They have also practised singing a C major scale.

Continuing Our Learning Journey at Home

You can watch ‘We’re going on a bear hunt’ here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lxPkeSh6_AU&t=361s

In preparation for next week’s learning focus on 2D shape, colour and pattern, we would like children to explore the topic at home.

Here are some ideas you could try at home:

Make a list and take photos of all the different shapes you can see in your home (rectangle TV, circle placement, square microwave).

Draw a picture and talk about the shapes you can see (e.g. a bus might be made up of a rectangle, square windows and circle wheels).

Create a necklace using different coloured beads or different shapes of pasta.

Create a repeating pattern using pencil crayons, paint or lego.
