Our Learning Journey

This week in Phonics Nursery have been practising mouth and tongue movements to help them make different letter sounds. We have continued to play initial sound matching using a mystery bag and bingo cards.

During continuous provision, NFD has been exploring what it might be like to run Santa’s workshop. The children have been reading phone numbers in our North Pole phone book and creating decorations for our classroom. We have made our own letterbox ready to write our present wish lists next week.

Mandarin

This week Nursery children learned about Chinese ink painting. We learned to say “painting” and “Chinese ink painting”. We also had fun learning how to use Chinese ink to make our own picture. The children started to learn to say “festival” and” Christmas” in Mandarin.

Physical Education

This week the children have been exploring a variety of different equipment and created their own small games to play with their peers. In swimming the children have been learning to put their face in the water frequently, with some children learning to turn their head out of the water.

Music

In Music this week, your children have practised singing Christmas carols accompanied with percussion instruments. They have also reviewed note values and very simple rhythm with crotchets (quarter notes) and quavers (eighth notes).

Continuing Our Learning Journey at Home

We have been thinking about how Christmas celebrations bring family and friends together. At home, you could talk about other family celebrations and traditions that you have (Diwali, Chinese New Year, Easter, birthdays etc). Please send in a photo, drawing or painting of how you celebrate at home.
