Our Learning Journey

This week has been all about how we can keep our bodies healthy. We have been discussing healthy and unhealthy foods and writing about our favourite healthy meals. We know it is important to stay active and to remember to wash our hands.

In Maths the children have had a lot of fun exploring measuring. We made our own class height charts and discussed who is taller, shorter, tallest and shortest. We have also been comparing the lengths of different objects around the classroom, finding the longest and shortest objects. The children enjoyed comparing the different lengths of worms.

In the outdoor learning area, the children have had fun learning the technique of bubble painting and have created their own bubble pictures. They have also been learning how to use split pins to attach materials together to make moving parts.

This week, the students learnt the shape of rectangle, star and fan. They listened to a famous story 《一起玩形状游戏》(Let’s play the shapes game) in consolidating the learnt shapes. They also practiced tracing the basic stroke “横折” (horizontal bend). Please refer to the link for the flashcards containing vocabulary words and key grammar structure.

Physical Education

In PE the children have been learning tagging games. This week the children are starting to look at small tactics to try and avoid opponents. In swimming, the children are learning to jump off swimming blocks and the first stage of diving.

In Music this week the children have been exploring timbre and how they can change the sound of their voices, they also came up with interesting words to describe this sounds: Scratchy, bright, dark, squeaky, etc. They listened to Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong singing “They can’t take that away from me” by Gershwin.

Continuing Our Learning Journey at Home

Length Activity at Home

Help your child to find a selection of objects at home that they can order by length. Which is the longest/shortest? Discuss who is the tallest/shortest in your family.

Phonics at home

Please continue to revise the sounds and tricky words that were sent home before the holidays. New sounds and words will be sent again at the end of term.

Have a go at playing these games:

For Show and Tell next Wednesday please discuss with your child something that they would like to get better at, for example getting changed, riding a bike, reading words, etc. To help your child remember what you have discussed you could draw a picture of what they would like to get better at.
