Our Learning Journey

We have had such a wonderful first week back, and what a great start to term 2! It has been lovely to see the children settle so quickly back into the school routines, eager to learn and getting to know their new friends in all the Reception classes.

We started off the week sharing with each other what we did over the Christmas holidays, and what Father Christmas brought us. We continued this theme in Literacy, where we wrote either a thank you letter to Father Christmas or wrote about our holidays. The children have tried hard with their writing, and have remembered to use some of their phonic knowledge.

In Maths, we have been looking at naming and describing 3D shapes. We enjoyed listening to 3D shapes songs and going on a 3D shape hunt around our classroom. We will be carrying on with this learning next week.

The most exciting part of the week for us all was our trip to the theatre to watch "We're going on a bear hunt". The children have enjoyed listening to and joining in with the story. They have had so much fun acting out the story and pretending to go on their own bear hunt. The children thoroughly enjoyed the trip with plenty of laughs and smiles. We are all very proud at how well the children behaved on the trip. A big thank you as well to all the parents who helped us on our trip. 

Mandarin

This week, the students focused on consolidating what they’ve learned in Term 1, covering the topics of Transportation, Numbers and Shapes. Classroom activities have included games, learning-related videos and speaking activities were carried out in the lessons to enhance students’ language skills.

Physical Education

This week in PE the children have been learning about running in athletics, with a focus on starts and arm movement to increase their speed. In swimming they have been looking back on prior learning to help refresh their minds for this terms lessons, focusing on freestyle this week.

Music

In Music this week, we have done a recapitulation of what they were learning on the keyboard before the break. Finding C and playing 5 notes of the C major scale using the right fingering and understanding that scales move stepwise.

Continuing Our Learning Journey at Home

To support your child's learning at home you could look for 2D and 3D shapes in the environment. Go on a shape hunt with your child and look at different packaging.

For show and tell this week could you help your child to pick  their favourite teddy bear to bring into class for the week. We will be learning all about bears linked to the learning outcome, 'Shows care and concern for living things in the environment.' Could you also research different bears and find a fact for your child to share with the class. It would also be nice if you could try and see if your child's teddy bear looks like a real bear, maybe a panda, polar or grizzly bear.
