Our Learning Journey

The children have had a busy final week before the half term holidays. It has been an exciting week learning all about the Diwali festival. We have been singing songs about Diwali and have read Diwali stories to help us understand the meaning behind this special festival. The children have enjoyed creating firework pictures and Rangoli patterns in the creative area.

In Maths this week we have been focusing on 2D shapes. The children have been learning to recognise 2D shapes and have begun to describe the shapes by discussing how many sides and corners each shape has. They have had fun creating pictures out of the 2D shapes.

In our Phonics sessions, we have been continuing to learn the individual sounds and practising our blending of CVC words. We have also been practising the letter formation of the individual sounds and it has been wonderful to see how confident the children are becoming to write independently in their play.

The children have had an amazing first half term in Reception and we are so very proud of them all! We hope you all have a wonderful Half term break and the children have a much-deserved rest.

This is the final week of learning numbers. Students learnt to count from 16 to 20. They also learnt a song related to numbers and measure words. They had a classroom game related to counting in order to consolidate the numbers 1 to 20.

Physical Education

In PE the children have been learning how to avoid opponents in fun tag games, continuing to turn and change direction to do so.

In Music this week, your children have explored dynamics playing quietly (P) or loud (F) on the keyboards, crescendo and diminuendo. In terms of keyboard skills, they are developing confidence playing a five finger sequence. C, D, E, F, G with the right fingering 1, 2,3,4,5.

Continuing Our Learning Journey at Home

The children have all been very excited to grow their own seed this week and have been carefully observing their seed grow. Over the holidays encourage your child to observe and discuss how the seed grows. You are welcome to send some photos of your child's seed.

For show and tell, we will be discussing what the children have done over the holidays. You can discuss with your child the following questions:

  •  Where did you go on your holiday?
  •  Who did you go with?
  •  What was the weather like?
  •  What was your favourite part of the holiday?
