Our Learning Journey

This week has been full of excitement as the children went on their first school trip in Reception. The children had lots of fun visiting 'The City' where they experienced a range of role play occupations such as a supermarket, hairdressers, police station and a post office. We were so very proud of all the children who behaved excellently throughout the trip.

In Maths we have been focusing on 1 more than a given number to 20. The children have been busy counting a range of objects and working out what would be 1 more. We have also been continuing our theme of healthy eating making fruit skewers. We counted the pieces of fruit each time we added 1 more piece to our skewer.

In Literacy we have been continuing to practise our reading and writing of words and sentences using our phonic knowledge. We also wrote sentences to produce a recount of our trip to 'The City'.

Mandarin

This week, the students have learnt a sentence structure to describe the objects using adjectives ‘Not only …but’. They learnt a Chinese song (快乐的形状) related to shapes to consolidate the vocabulary of shapes. They also continued to trace the basic stroke of ‘horizontal left falling’ (横撇).

Physical Education

In PE this week the children have been introduced to target games and have been focusing on aiming specifically. In swimming the children have been continuing work on their backstroke technique and front crawl.

Music

In Music this week, your children have continued to explore timbre and how sounds can be mixed to create new sounds. Using their newly acquired vocabulary to describe sound, they came up with interesting combinations and were able to describe mixing of two or more instruments in Ligeti’s 6 Bagatelles for woodwind instruments.

Continuing Our Learning Journey at Home

To support your child's learning at home and to understand more and less here are some maths games for you to play. You can ask your child "what is 1 more than 5 etc."

Please practise sounding out and blending the words that we have sent home with your child to develop their phonic skills.

For Show and Tell this week please discuss where is their favourite place in the world and why?. Here are some questions to help you discuss their favourite place.

  • Where is your favourite place in the whole world?
  • If you could go anywhere in the world where would you go?
  • Why do you like that place?
  • What can you do there?
  • Who would go there with you?
  • What is the weather like there?
  • What does it look like?

Please make some notes with your child about their favourite place to help them share with the rest of the class.
