Our Learning Journey

We have had a very short week but it has been lovely to hear what the children have been up to over the long weekend. This led to our literacy activity this week of writing about what we did over Chinese New Year. The children focused on sounding out words independently and forming letters correctly.

In maths this week the children have continued to reinforce their knowledge of adding by counting on to find the total number of two groups.

We have also begun to discuss which country we are going to be learning about for UN day and the children were very excited.

This week, students continued with the learning of “bai tian” and “wan shang” which means “day” and “night” respectively. A video about the topic was shown in class, aiming to expose students to the target language as well as to revise the content they’ve learnt in the previous week. As sentence structure (time+subject+action) was taught in class, Rally Robin teaching approach was carried out in class, enabling students to enhance their speaking and listening skills in particular.

Physical Education

In PE this week the children have been learning to jump for height instead of distance, they have been learning this through co-operative learning and station based lessons.

In Music this week, your children have explored vocal imitation, both exact and slightly modified. Taking as an example Papageno and Papagena’s duet from The Magic Flute, in which Mozart used imitation to create a moment of both beauty and comedy.

Continuing Our Learning Journey at Home

To support you child's learning at home could you please research the country we are learning about for UN day, Brazil. Using an A4 or A3 piece of paper could you write down some short facts, encouraging your child to write the facts with your support. You could draw some pictures of Brazil also, and anything else you would like to do to make a fact page about Brazil.

We understand that this may take longer than a week so please don’t feel rushed to get it done in 2 days, as it might be a bit too much to do all at once with your child.
